Our Robotics Team won first place in Northern Division Competition (11 teams total competing) and have received an invitation to compete in the State Competition April 12-18! Additionally, they received the “Collins Aerospace Innovate Award,” an award given to the team that has the most innovative and creative robot design and celebrates the team that thinks outside the box, shows ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness. Team Virtual North’s robot is named, “Jim,” and is based on the popular character from The Office.
This year, the robotics challenge has been to construct a robot and then program and control it to move wobble goals to the opposite side of the arena and then shoot rings into a goal across the arena. Then through coding of the robot and through two-person controlled operation on game controllers, the object is to score as many points as possible while avoiding penalties.
Team members include: Manning Cox, Reese McCoy, Reed Rivers, Reid Russell, Morgan Scott (not pictured), Tyler Shinholt, and Lindsey Skinner. The team is sponsored by Wendy Cox and Scott Young.
We are incredibly proud of our Robotics Team who have accomplished so much in their short, two-year existence! Want to see them in action? Visit their Robotics Virtual North Facebook Page where they post videos of their competitions. https://www.facebook.com/VirtualNorthNCS
They have been competing virtually this year, as due to COVID-19, no competitions were held in-person.
