Lady Trojans Sweep Three
The Northpoint softball team enjoyed a 3-0 week last week with a 17-3 district win on the road at FACS and a home doubleheader sweep of MHEA (16-1 and 6-5). The Lady Trojans are now 4-0 in district play. Northpoint hosts Harding in a key district matchup on Tuesday (4:30) and travels to Fayette on Friday (5:00).
Northpoint Improves to 3-0 in District Play
After dropping a pair of non-conference games earlier in the week, the Lady Trojan softball bounced back with a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Harding on Thursday to grab sole possession of first place in the district. Down to her team’s last strike in the seventh inning and trailing 5-4, Brittany Goudy delivered what would prove to be the game winner for Northpoint.
The Lady Trojans are back in action this week with conference contests at FACS (Tues., 4:30) and at home against ECS (Fri., 4:30). In between, Northpoint steps out of conference on Thursday to play host to MHEA in a doubleheader (4:30).
Lady Trojans Add Pair of Wins
Northpoint picked up two road wins on the softball diamond last week, 13-1 over ECS in a division matchup Tuesday and 16-0 over St. Agnes on Thursday. McKinkley Baker’s grand slam was part of an 8-RBI day that led the Lady Trojan offense in the ECS win. In the St. Agnes win, Sarah Gill tossed a shutout and drive in four runs.
This week, Northpoint travels to Tipton-Rosemark on Monday (5:30), hosts Briarcrest on Tuesday (4:30), and goes to Harding on Thursday (4:30).
Softball Team Wins District Opener
The Northpoint softball team picked up a win in their first district game against FACS. After giving up a run in the top of the first, the Lady Trojans scored eleven runs before they made their first out in the bottom of the inning en route to a 17-7 win. The team did not fare as well in the Morris Hunter Invitational in Southaven over the weekend, dropping several close games in going 0-4 for the tournament.
The 2-5 Lady Trojans return to action with road contests at ECS and St. Agnes this week.
Lady Trojans Split Opening Week Pair
Northpoint’s varsity softball team began their season with a loss on the road at Bolton (8-5) and a thrilling 12-11 come-from-behind win over Fayette Academy. In the win over the Lady Vikings, Northpoint trailed 11-4 after five innings. Sarah Gill turned in two shutout innings in relief to set up the Lady Trojan comeback as her teammates cut into the Fayette lead with two runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-6. With two outs and one runner on base, the Lady Trojans went to work. McKinley Baker reached on an error, and Desirea Smith drew a walk. Hadie Sowell kept the inning going with an infield single, and Lindsey Whiteside drove in a pair with a line drive single up the middle. Lauren Gross belted the first pitch she saw to deep center field for a triple to tie the game, and Gill turned in the game winner with a liner the just tipped the top of the first baseman’s glove into right field to ignite a Northpoint celebration.
