Northpoint Lady Trojans Claim Second Straight State Crown

Northpoint claimed their second consecutive TSSAA Division II-A state championship in girls basketball with a 70-54 win over University School of Jackson at Lipscomb University on Saturday night. After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Lady Trojans built a 33-26 halftime lead. They built the lead to 13 by the end of the third quarter and controlled the remainder of the game to claim another gold ball. Miss Basketball finalist Ashtyn Baker led the Lady Trojans with 25 points. Jade Wells had 17 and Lindsey Whiteside scored 15, including three three-pointers in the decisive third quarter. Baker, Wells, Whiteside, and Lauren Gross were named to the all-tournament team, and Baker was named tournament Most Valuable Player. The Northpoint cheerleaders and fans capped the awards ceremony by taking the tournament spirit award.

The Lady Trojans, who finished the season 29-2, earned a spot in the finals with a 61-30 semifinal win over region rival Harding. Trailing 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, Northpoint used a 21-2 second quarter to run away with the game. Baker (19), Gross (17), and Whiteside (17) led the offensive attack for the Lady Trojans.

Lady Trojans Punch Ticket to Nashville to Defend Title

The Northpoint girls basketball team took another step toward defending their Division II-A championship with a 63-27 sub-state win over King’s Academy from Seymour, Tennessee. Lauren Gross led the Lady Trojans (26-2) with 17 points while Ashtyn Baker had 14 and Jade Wells added 11. Northpoint advances to the Final Four in Nashville next weekend at Lipscomb University. The semifinals are set for Friday, March 3, at either 10:00 or 1:15. The girls II-A state championship game is slated for Saturday, March 4, at 5:30 and will also be played at Lipscomb.

Northpoint Girls Win Regional, Advance to Sub-State

The Northpoint Lady Trojans won the Division II-A West Regional Tournament, held last weekend at Northpoint, to advance to the sub-state round of the TSSAA playoffs. The Lady Trojans defeated Lausanne, 66-44, in the semifinals in front of a packed gym on Friday afternoon and beat University School of Jackson, 49-33, to win the west region title. Ashtyn Baker and Lauren Gross were named to the All-Tornament Team and Lindsey Whiteside was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. The Lady Trojans host The King’s Academy, the number four seed from the east regional, on Friday at 3:00 with a trip to the TSSAA Division II-A Final Four on the line.

Lady Trojans Advance in Regionals with Win Over St. George’s

Northpoint’s varsity girls advanced to the regional semifinals with a 66-38 win over St. George’s on Tuesday night on Manley Court. The Lady Trojans ran off 17 straight points to open the contest and never looked back in taking their first step toward defending their Division II-A state championship. Next up for Northpoint is a regional semifinal matchup with district foe Lausanne. A win would guarantee a home game in the sub-state round. The game with the Lady Lynx is slated for Friday at 3:30. Northpoint is hosting the regional tournament for both the girls and the boys with all semifinals on Friday and consolation and championship games on Saturday.

Northpoint Caps Undefeated District Season with Senior Night Win

The Northpoint varsity girls completed a district sweep with a 69-45 win over FACS on Manley Court on Friday night. The win, their 14th in a row overall, sends the Lady Trojans into the playoffs with a record of 22-2 (12-0). Northpoint begins defense of its DII-A state championship on Tuesday night at home against the winner of ECS and St. George’s.

Lady Trojans Race to District Championship with Win Over Harding

Northpoint’s girls’ basketball team was clicking on all cylinders in the first half at home against district rival Harding Tuesday night, rolling to a 72-39 win, their 13th straight. Hannah Shafer led the scoring onslaught with 23, followed by Lindsey Whiteside and Ashtyn Baker with 18 each. Northpoint improved to 21-2 (11-0) in sewing up the district championship. The Lady Trojans are back in action Friday night for their final regular-season game of the year on Senior Night against FACS.

Northpoint Girls Sweep Week, Run Win Streak to Twelve

The Lady Trojans added wins over Catholic, Lausanne, and tenth-ranked Arlington to their resume last week to improve to 21-2 and 10-0 in the district. Northpoint went on the road to claim district wins over Memphis Catholic, 60-33, and Lausanne, 57-22. Saturday’s home game versus Arlington was a make-up of a game postponed earlier this season due to wintry weather. The Lady Trojans trailed by one at halftime but controlled the second half to cruise to a 56-38 victory, their twelfth consecutive win. Northpoint will close out the regular season with home games against Harding on Tuesday and FACS on Friday.

Lady Trojans Cruise to District Win at ECS

Lauren Gross hit three first-quarter three-pointers as Northpoint sprinted to an early 23-8 lead en route to a 66-22 victory at ECS on Friday night. Five players scored in double digits for Northpoint: Ashtyn Baker (16), Gross (15), Amara McKay (12), Jade Wells (10), and Lindsey Whiteside (10). The win was the ninth in a row for the Lady Trojans, now 18-2 overall and 8-0 in district play.

Northpoint Girls Add Two District Wins, Stay Undefeated in District Play

The Lady Trojans moved their record to 7-0 (17-2 overall) with a pair of blowouts early this week, 62-22 over St. Mary’s at home and 78-33 at FACS. In the win over St. Mary’s on Monday night, the score was knotted 12-12 at the end of the first quarter before the Lady Trojans finished with a 50-10 flourish. On Tuesday night against FACS, the Lady Trojans bolted to a 31-0 lead and scored 44 points in the first quarter as the game was never in question.

Lady Trojans Pick Up Key District Win Over Harding

In what has traditionally been a tough place to play for the Northpoint varsity girls basketball team, the Lady Trojans defeated Harding, 43-31, on the road Friday night. The Lady Trojans improved to 15-2 (5-0) in avenging their only district loss from last season.

Lady Trojans Win Big Over Lausanne in Key District Matchup

A day after defeating Dandy Dozen #3 Houston, Northpoint’s varsity girls dominated district foe Lausanne, 72-43. After a brief deficit early in the opening period, the Lady Trojans gained the lead and gradually increased it until the Lady Lynx went on a run late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 12. A 25-point output in the fourth quarter put aside any thoughts of a comeback as Northpoint improved to 4-0 in the district and 14-2 overall. The Lady Trojans moved up to #4 in the latest Commercial-Appeal Dandy Dozen.

Northpoint Picks Up MLK Win over #3 Houston

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead, then hung on through several Lady Mustang runs to pick up a 53-49 win over Dandy Dozen #3 Houston on Monday at the MLK Classic game at Lausanne. Northpoint, who came into the game ranked #5 in the same poll, pulled ahead each time Houston rallied in this back-and-forth affair. Ashtyn Baker led the Lady Trojan offense with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jade Wells had 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Lindsey Whiteside chipped in 12 points. Northpoint improved to 13-2 with the holiday win.

Lady Trojans Cruise to Homecoming Win Over Memphis Catholic

The Northpoint varsity girls took advantage of early foul trouble on Memphis Catholic to build an early lead on their way to a 59-19 win on homecoming night. The Lady Trojans scored eleven first quarter points from the foul line and pulled away by halftime. Five of the eight Lady Chargers had fouled out by early in the fourth quarter, and Catholic finished the game with only three eligible players on the court. Jade Wells led Northpoint in scoring with 24 points, including 18-of-24 from the foul line. The Lady Trojans improved to 12-2 (3-0) with the conference win.

Northpoint Varsity Girls Take Easy Road Win at St. Mary’s

The Lady Trojans sprinted to a 45-14 halftime lead at St. Mary’s on Thursday night en route to an 84-34 final. Northpoint is now 11-2 on the season and return to action on Saturday night against Memphis Catholic for homecoming at Manley Court.

Lady Trojans Start District Play with Win Over ECS

Jade Wells (13) led four Northpoint starters in double digit scoring as the Lady Trojans cruised to a 62-19 victory over ECS to begin district play. Northpoint improved to 10-2 (1-0).

Northpoint Takes Two of Three at DragonFire Invitational

The Lady Trojans won two and lost one at the prestigious DragonFire Invitational at Collierville High School over the holidays. After a bye in the first round, Northpoint beat West Memphis, 64-52, in the quarterfinals. Jade Wells (16), Lauren Gross (14), Lindsey Whiteside (13), and Ashtyn Baker (12) all scored in double digits in the win. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead in the semifinals against the Lady Dragons of Collierville to run away with a 46-27 triumph.

In the finals Northpoint faced Memphis Central, who hit a last-second shot to give the Lady Trojans their only loss of the season earlier in the year. This time, Central jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Northpoint proved resilient, climbing back in the game but never quite getting over the hump to take the lead. With under twenty seconds remaining in the game and down four, Hannah Shafer’s basket and Ashtyn Baker’s two free throws tied the game and sent it into overtime. The Lady Trojans held a brief lead but eventually succumbed to the Lady Warriors, 56-55, to finish runner-up in the tournament and fall to 9-2 on the season.

The Lady Trojans return to the court with a home game against Arlington on Friday night on Manley Court with a special game time of 7:30.

Lady Trojans Bounce TRA to Wrap Up Finals Week

Northpoint’s varsity girls raced to a 28-0 lead after a quarter of play and polished off a 59-32 win over Tipton-Rosemark to close out the fall semester. The Lady Trojans led 54-8 after three before the Lady Rebels could put together any offensive consistency.

Northpoint Runs Win Streak to Five with Win Over Trezevant

The Lady Trojans basketball team continued their recent roll with a 70-33 win over Trezevant at Manley Court on Thursday night. Lindsey Whiteside led Northpoint with 17 points as the Lady Trojans improved to 6-1 on the season with the win. The team returns to action on Friday night, December 16, at Manley Court against Tipton-Rosemark.

Varsity Girls Trounce Bolton

The Northpoint girls basketball team  won their fourth game in a row at Bolton Tuesday night, 69-36. The Lady Trojans trailed 8-4 late in the first quarter in a sluggish start but found their rhythm in the second to race to a 35-13 lead by halftime.

Lady Trojans Trojans Use Big Third Quarter to Top Hot Springs

Northpoint overcame an early deficit to beat Hot Springs (AR) 49-43 in the NEA NextLevel Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas, over the weekend. After trailing for much of the first half, the Lady Trojans used a 23-9 third quarter to run away from Hot Springs and earn their third straight win.

Northpoint Knocks Off St. Benedict in Easy Road Win

A 24-point effort from junior Lauren Gross led Northpoint to a 60-27 win over St. Benedict. Lindsey Whiteside added 13 points, Jade Wells had 12, and Ashtyn Baker chipped in 9 in the win. The Lady Trojans (3-1) take on Hot Springs (AR) in the NEA NextLevel Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Saturday at 3:00.

Lady Trojans Use Feisty Defense to Down Magnolia Heights

The Northpoint girls downed the Lady Chiefs of Magnolia Heights, 56-18, to close out the pre-Thanksgiving break portion of their schedule. After one quarter, the Lady Trojans used the fast break to jump out to a 16-8 lead. The defense tightened the screws on the Lady Chiefs over the next two periods, allowing just three points in extending the lead to 53-11 before Coach Barry Gray dished out valuable experience to his reserves to close out the victory. Ashtyn Baker’s 17 points paced the Lady Trojans. Lauren Gross scored 13, and Lindsey Whiteside chipped in 9. The Lady Trojans (2-1) return to action on Tuesday, November 29, at St. Benedict.

Northpoint Girls Fall to Central in Thriller

After a back-and-forth affair in front of a packed gym, Memphis Central hit a second-chance shot with 2.4 seconds remaining to top Northpoint, 51-50. The matinee game was played in front of most of the student body. After jumping out to a quick 8-0 lead, the Lady Trojans fought through foul trouble to hold on to their lead throughout most of the rest of the game. They were able to get off a shot just before the buzzer, but it bounced off the rim to drop the Lady Trojans’ record to 1-1 on the season. Unofficially, Jade Wells led the Northpoint offense with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Trojans are back in action on Monday night, November 21, at home against Magnolia Heights.

Lady Trojans Dominant in Season Opener

Northpoint’s girls basketball team opened their season on Tuesday night, November 15, with a 70-11 victory over Tunica. Hadie Sowell led the Lady Trojan offense with 11 points.

The Northpoint girls are back in action on Friday afternoon at home versus Memphis Central. Donations for St. Jude will be accepted at the game. Students in grades 4-12 will be on hand to cheer on the Lady Trojans. Game time is 2:00.
